Montecatini Alto

Montecatini Alto is an ancient medieval village, situated on top of the hill that overlooks Montecatini Terme.

Montecatini Alto can be reached by car or with the ancient Funicolare, built in 1898, the oldest in the world that still works.

The new exhibition space MO.C.A. - MOntecatini Contemporary Art has its seat inside the liberty style Town Hall.

Among the beautiful stained glass windows made by Master Galileo Chini, are exposed many world-class masterpieces, like the paintings Vita by Pietro Annigoni and Joan Miró’s Woman Encircled by the Flight of a Bird.

The museum also also hosts various exhibitions, shows, concerts and book events during the year. Entrance is free.

Grotta Giusti SPA

Discovered in 1849, Grotta Giusti has been defined as the eighth wonder of the world by Giuseppe Verdi. The hot steam inside the thermal cave has a healing powers on the body and the mind, getting rid the organism from the stess.

Today, Grotta Giusti is a modern Spa Resort, with also a wellness centre and a large thermal pool, with water plays and hydromassages.

Montecatini Opera Festival

Montecatini Opera Festival, totally dedicated to opera lovers, is recognized as one of the great musical festivals taking place in Italy.

The season covers a period of 7 months, from April to October. All the events are performed in the town most suitable places: the Excelsior (a real architectonic jewel and ideal place to enjoy music as in a late 19^th century salon) and the Tettuccio, a fantastic space open to the sky, with the same charming atmosphere which inspired the great composers of the past.

Padule of Fucecchio

The Padule of Fucecchio, with its two hundred acres of wilderness, is the largest pelagic basin in Italy.

Just a 30-minute drive from Montecatini, it is a must-see attraction due to the richness of its biodiversity. Guided tours, boat trips and birdwatching workshops are just some of the activities that you will be able to experience in Padule. Have fun photographing the 12,000 bird specimens that live amongst ferns, water lilies and many other ancient plants which populate this stunning park.

In addition to the naturalistic relevance, this area retains the attractiveness of historical events bound to the great Medici and Lorena families.
